George Trainor Classic 2007 Tournament Rules
- PLAYING RULES
- The current Hockey Canada rules and Hockey PEI guidelines will apply for all games.
- The referee's decision on playing rules will be final.
- The Tournament Rules Committee will rule on matters relating to the Tournament and their decisions shall be final.
- No protests will be accepted.
- PLAYERS
- All players must be registered with the Minor Hockey Association represented by their team and play on a team that has been formed for league purposes.
- A player may play on only one team throughout this tournament.
- A team will be allowed to dress a maximum of nineteen players, unless approval has been granted by the Branch for extra players.
- In the event of an injury to a goaltender during Tournament play, and the team does not have an alternate goaltender dressed, the team will be given five minutes to dress another goaltender. The game will continue after the five minutes have expired.
- GAMES
Divisional Play
- Each game will consist of three twelve minute stop time periods.
- If there is a goal differential of five goals or more at any time during the third period, the remainder of the game shall be straight time.
- 2 points will be awarded for a win, and 1 point per team for a tie.
- A 3 minute warm-up is allowed commencing immediately upon the completion of the previous game.
- No time outs will be permitted during round robin play.
Cross-Over and semi-final Games
- Duration: 3 - twelve (12) minute stop time periods. Divisional play rules apply except for (c) and (e).
- In the event of a tie, sudden victory overtime will commence immediately following the third period (teams do not change ends). Overtime will be played as follows:
20 minutes stop time, followed by flood;
REPEAT AS REQUIRED.
- One time out per team is permitted in semi-final, cross-over and championship games.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
- All games will be three 12 minute stop time periods. If goal spread is five goals or greater at any time during the third period the remainder of the game shall be straight time. There will be a flood after the second period for all divisions.
- In the event of a tie, sudden victory overtime will commence immediately following the third period (teams do not change ends). Overtime will be played as follows:
20 minutes stop time, followed by flood;
REPEAT AS REQUIRED.
- PENALTIES
- There is zero tolerance for fighting. Any player assessed a penalty for fighting at any time will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament.
- Any player or team official receiving a Match or Gross Misconduct will be suspended from further tournament play.
- Hockey PEI minimum suspensions will apply unless the Rules Committee decides that additional suspensions are merited. Players and team officials are advised that all suspensions earned in this tournament will be reported to the Hockey PEI who may take additional action.
- Penalties assessed when the clock is running on straight time will be served as follows: Penalty time begins with the drop of the puck; minors- two (2) minutes; majors- five (5) minutes.
- GENERAL
- All players are to be at the arena and ready to play at least thirty minutes prior to game time
- Teams should have two sets of contrasting sweaters. In the event that teams present themselves with similar sweaters, the visiting team will be required to change.
- Teams listed on the left of the schedule are the home teams for round robin play. Highest placing teams are the home team for the crossovers and semi-finals. The home team for the championship games will be determined by a flip of a coin except in the categories of one division where the highest placing teams will be Home.

4 team Division
Round Robin - play each other
Top two teams after round robin play in Championship game.
6 team division
Round Robin - play three games
Top four teams after round robin play in Semi final ( 1 v 4 and 2 v 3).
Winners of semi final play in Championship game.
8 team Division
2 divisions - play in Division.
Top two teams in each division cross over (first place is home team). Top teams in each division play second place in other division.
Winners of cross over play in Championship
10 team Competition
3 divisions - 2 divisions of three teams who play the teams in the opposite division and one division of four teams who play within the division.
Top four teams advance.
Semi-finals - 1 v 4 and 2 v 3
Winners of semi finals advance to Championship.
12 team Division
three divisions, playing within division.
Top team in each division advances, plus the next best record as a wildcard.
Top finisher plays fourth best record in semis; second plays third.
Winners play in Championship.
16 team division
Four divisions with all teams playing within their own divisions.
Winner of each division advances to semi-finals.
Best records determine standings. 1 v 4 and 2 v 3
Winners of semi finals advance to Championship.
DIVISIONAL TIE BREAKING FORMULA
THESE ARE APPLIED IN ORDER OF OCCURRENCE AND AS APPLICABLE - once started in either stream, the formula within that stream continues to apply for non- eliminated teams:
TWO TEAMS TIED
- Record between two teams tied.
- Team with the most wins overall.
- Largest goal differential all games (maximum of 5/game).
- Least goals scored against all games.
- Most goals scored for all games.
- The team that scored the earliest in game between teams tied.
- The team that scored the earliest in their first tournament game.
- Coin toss.
THREE OR MORE TEAMS TIED
- Team with the most wins between teams tied.
- Largest goal differential in games involving teams tied (max. of 5/game).
- Least goals scored against in games involving teams tied.
- Most goals scored for in games involving teams tied.
- Largest goal differential in all games (max. of 5/game).
- Least goals scored against in all games.
- Most goals scored for in all games.
- Team scoring earliest in their first tournament game.
- Coin toss.
